Why You Need To Book A Staycation ASAP

staycation ideas for couples for a weekend away

This winter was BUSY.

Between ramping up my business, taking some fun trips, and starting new projects, self-care was a little hard to add into the mix.

I mean, of course I stayed active and ate pretty healthy, but “self-care” isn’t just about doing workouts and eating kale. It’s much more than that.

Self-care is about taking time for you – not for your business, not for other people, and not because you feel like you “have to." I’m talking about the good, ol’ quality TLC for the soul.

So this past month, Cody and I decided to book a little staycation for a weekend away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. We decided on a 1-night stay at the Sacagawea Hotel, located about 20 minutes from our home in Bozeman.

For those of you that aren’t from around here, the Sac is a historic hotel located in Three Forks, Montana, complete with a five-star chef, small town charm, live music, and the best dirty martini this side of the Mississippi (just sayin’). In other words, a weekend at the Sac was just what we needed.

Okay, let’s back up for a sec. Even though a “staycation” technically means you stay at home and vacation, the Sacagawea was only 20 minutes away, so it was actually the best of both worlds.

K, back to the program...

Upon our arrival, we were greeted with a glass of champagne - uhm yes please! - and directions to our room.

Cody and I ended up staying in one of their new cottages, which they finished building this past winter. I've stayed in the actual hotel once before, so I wanted to try something different, and I’m so glad I did.

The cottage was so cute! First off, everything inside is painted white (a dream), there are no shared walls, the beds are like a cloud, and the plethora of windows made it feel so airy and bright that I wanted to stay forever.

They also had a bottle of champagne and chocolate covered strawberries in the room when we arrived. Not to mention, photos of Cody and I's fake wedding, HA! That was such a fun surprise that gave us both a giggle ;)

After settling into our room, we went to the main lobby for a little wine tasting action. We sampled wines from Walla Walla to Sonoma Valley, and had the best rose' I've had in awhile! We may or may not have bought 5 bottles...but who's counting!

After wine tasting, we decided to explore the little town of Three Forks to kill some time before our dinner reservations. We went to a couple of small town bars, made friends with the locals, and almost bought a camouflage hat - gotta love small town, USA!

To end the evening, we had dinner at Pompey's Grill; one of my favorite restaurants in Montana. We ordered the clams for an appetizer and I paired it with an extra-dirty martini. I had the tenderloin with the mushrooms, and Code got the rack of lamb. Everything was impeccable. Seriously. Go there to eat, and you'll know exactly what I mean.

So after dinner, wine tasting, and the champagne we had upon arrival, we were dunzo. We decided to head back to our cottage and crawl into bed. We then realized it was 9:15 pm...

The next morning, Cody woke up early and headed fishing, and I ordered breakfast in bed. It came to the room in a small picnic basket and was the perfect, light breakfast I needed after indulging in the good stuff the day before.

After taking my time showering, getting ready for the day, and answering a few emails, I decided it was time to make the 20-mile journey back home.

As you can see, my idea of a staycation may look different than yours. One too many glasses of wine, a 9 o'clock bedtime, and a weekend away with my love, is how I relax. So whatever self-care looks like for you, I recommend you actually practice it, and get back to what makes you genuinely happy.
