10 Books To Read When You Find Yourself With More Time At Home

Must read books when you find yourself with more time at home

Whenever I find myself with a little more time on my hands, I love to pick up a new book to read and immerse myself into every word - which to be honest, doesn’t happen that often.

I’m usually a sucker for a good self-help book. I love hearing from our community leaders on how to be more productive, how to change your mindset, or even how to make more money. But, I also find myself being more and more attracted to storytelling books and fiction novels whenever I need a mental break.

Over the years I’ve read some pretty incredible books, so I wanted to share my top 10 must-read books with you in case you’re finding yourself with a little more time on your hands. Enjoy!

P.S. All of these images below link to my Amazon account, meaning I get a little kickback from Amazon for referring you their way. Remember, shop local when you can!

When Breathe Becomes Air by Paul Kalanithi

This is my favorite book of all time. Shortly after my dad died, I ordered this book to sort of “find some answers” when it came to death. I was lost, but I was also curious. This book is written, for the most part, by a neurosurgeon who finds out he has lung cancer. He writes about his time up until the moment he passes. Then, his wife picks right up where he left off and finishes the book for him. Talk about a tear-jerker, but one of the most impactful books I’ve ever read.

Where The Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens

I just recently read and finished this book. It’s a fiction novel set in the marshlands of North Carolina that tells a story about a girl named Kya who goes through many ups and downs in life, but perseveres through it all. It reminded me of a classic novel like Huck Finn or To Kill A Mockingbird. A great read to immerse yourself into a heart-felt story.

Wild by Cheryl Strayed

One of my favorite books to date, Wild by Cheryl Strayed was another one of those reads that I undertook shortly after I lost my dad. It tells a story of a woman who embarks on a solo-trek on the Pacific Crest Trail after her mother passed away. It’s one of grit, grace, heartache and truth.

You Are A Badass and You Are A Badass At Making Money by Jen Sincero

These two books (and anything by Jen Sincero) will always be at the top of my list. I want to say they changed my life, but rather encouraged me to change my own life. She has such a subtle, hilarious way to help you change your mindset around everything - from money, to relationships to life. You can’t go wrong with these two reads.

Essentialism by Greg McKeown

I was gifted this book by my lululemon ambassador fam and it’s stuck with me ever since. It helps you walk through your life with this notion “How can you do more, while doing less?” And I continuously refer back to it whenever I find myself at a cross-roads with my business and my life.

Girl, Wash Your Face by Rachel Hollis

I wasn’t sure I’d like this book, because Rachel Hollis hasn’t really ever resonated with me. But, this book in particular, does a great job of breaking down the lies you tell yourself. The chapter that really got me hooked was 15 and the story she shared about losing her brother to suicide in regards to the lie “I will never get past this”….talk about chills and a moment I could relate to.

My Stroke of Insight by Jill Bolte Taylor

I’m not gonna lie, I’m still reading this book. It’s one of those intricate stories, with quite a bit of science behind it, so I often find myself re-reading pages and pausing on sections to really digest things. Why do I like it? My dad passed away from complications from a stroke, and well, it gives insight on not only the scientific portions, but the humanity behind it as well.

Educated by Tara Westover

This one is a memoir about a girl from rural Idaho that navigates her life from childhood to the PhD program at Cambridge University as she struggles against her family’s devout religious beliefs and fights for an education, learning along the way that to be educated is to learn much more about the world than what’s contained in books.

The Power of Habit by Charles Duhigg

Habit is something that seems so simple, right? I mean do something for 21 days and you’ve formed a habit, ya? Actually - it’s not so simple. This book breaks down what it truly means to form a habit (good or bad) the power those habits create.

The Wolf of Wall Street by Jordan Belfort

This one seems a bit odd to include in this list, but I love it! I’m sure you’ve watched the movie with Leonardo DiCaprio, but this book is far better than the film. It’s one of those books that you read and after each chapter you’re like “woah, that actually happened?” It’s a wild escape from everyday reality.

Anyway, there you have it. My top 10 books to read when you find yourself with a little more time on your hands. Do you have any books you love to dive into at home? Drop them in the comments below as I’m always after my next read!

xx, Cass
